Spreading the whl.travel Word

whl.travel is slowly but surely lifting into more visible flying space. Despite the tumult of these financially unstable times and while other travel companies contract, whl.travel continues to expand, reaching across and deep into new destinations, refining content and improving access to it, striking up new collaborative relationships with other players that share sustainable and responsible tourism values and even working on new joint ventures with some of the tourism industry’s better-known players (stay tuned for these announcements).

“I think you will be seeing a lot more of whl.travel in the media over the coming months,” said Len Cordiner, CEO of whl.travel. Boy is he right.

Yet Another New Local Travel Knowledge Site?

It’s astonishing just how quickly a phrase or an idea can catch on and seem to spawn a whole new generation of websites almost overnight.

by Stephen Chapman (March 30, 2009)

[[whl.travel and maketravelfair have agreed to share this content with the aim of educating, engaging and inspiring both communities.]]

‘Local travel’ feels like it’s hit the big time at the moment. Although there are mixed thoughts on whether ‘local travel’ refers to utilising the help of people native to a destination or to utilising tips from fellow travellers who have been there, or both, everyone wants a piece of the ‘local travel’ action, to join a web start-up and wrestle to become the next big thing in travel. One thing is for sure: without a business model behind many of the initiatives that are popping up, they are open to abuse and cannot always be trusted.

PEPY Magic: Under an NGO Spell in Rural Cambodia

By Laura Pepper

.

I had no idea that a trip with PEPY would have such an impact on my life. Well, actually that’s a slight lie. The friend who had recommended the Cambodia-based NGO to me had warned that it would, but I didn’t quite believe it. After all, I had volunteered before, I had travelled Southeast Asia before and I had been working with children for two years. What possible magic formula could PEPY bring to the mix? I found out during a 10-day Golden Week PEPY tour in rural Cambodia.

Outdoor Himalayan Treks Joins the Ranks of the whl.travel Global Grassroots Travel Network

Nepal Launches the First of two Locally-Owned Travel-Booking Portals

A longer PDF version of this announcement is available as a download.

Independent travellers to Nepal and hoteliers in Kathmandu have both celebrated the early-April launch of www.kathmanduhotel-link.com. A locally owned and operated travel-booking portal, it propels Kathmandu-based small- and medium-sized tourism operators into the global e-marketplace.

“This initiation of connecting local hoteliers to the international market will aid in the promotion of Nepal’s beautiful destinations and unique products,” said the Prachanda Man Shrestha, CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board. “Nepal Tourism Board applauds…this endeavour that will certainly help the tourism of the country in the long run.”

www.kathmanduhotel-link.com is the 156th locally managed destination website brought to the public by whl.travel, the global grassroots travel network catering to independent and responsible travellers. The Kathmandu website is also the first of two currently planned for Nepal and the 14th travel portal in South Asia, adding to others in India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
