Tours and activities of the non-fast food variety
Much as with accommodation, we are trying to ensure that our tours and activities give you a chance to experience the 'real' destination. As our partner in Swaziland puts it.... "we believe in racking up experiences and not just travelling between them".
Some samples include:
Communist Industrial Wasteland
This Real Tour brings you to a pitiful monument of Communist planning, Most city. Although erected in the 1970s, Most city captures the atmosphere envisioned by Orwell in his dystopia of 1984.
On this tour, you will see the impact of the reckless exploitation of natural resources and forceful re-settlement of people of different social and ethnic backgrounds into indistinguishable 13 story panelak buildings. Most city became synonymous with crime, unemployment, disengagement and hopelessness. Get an insight into what life is like 100 km away from Prague.
Half Day Cultural and Township Tour
Having grown up in a township himself, there is nobody better qualified to lead a
township tour than Morris. He can not only let you in on some of the local history, but he can also give you an insight into all of the various cultural and social dynamics in play.
You can't understand people until you know where they come from. With this in mind, Morris kicks his tour off at the District Six Museum. From there he takes you deep into the heart of some of the various townships in Cape Town where you will see how hundreds of thousands of Capetonians really live. Make sure you take some small change along; it is customary to tip families who let you into their homes.
The PEPY Ride III
For the third year in a row, PEPY will offer The PEPY Ride! This multi-week bike ride will bring travellers across Cambodia, from the ancient temples of Angkor to the beaches of Sihanoukville.
Along the way riders will learn about Cambodia from PEPY's partner organizations, teach environmental lessons at local schools, and experience the beautiful rural landscape of Cambodia. National Geographic Adventure featured this trip as one of their "Trips of a Lifetime", and we agree; it's a trip not to miss!
Elephants and Trekking
Full day elephant riding and trekking combination tour in the "Elephant Park Project", which is just 15 km outside of Luang Prabang. The tour includes village visits and soft hiking into amazing countryside, to a Khamu minority village and also the magnificent Tad Sae Waterfall. This is a perfect package for responsible travellers, as this tour also supports the "Fair Trek" project which raises funding for seven villages in the area.
Dancing Bears Refuge Park Tour
This 1 day private tour to the Dancing Bears Refuge Park near Belitsa is for true animal lovers and warm-hearted adventurers who are looking to see these amazing animals and make a difference in stopping bear cruelty in Bulgaria. Don't just travel - do something
good! The park has created a 120,000 m2 refuge for the 27 inhabitants of the park. They continue to educate against bear cruelty and rescue as many bears as possible to end this form of cruelty against these magnificent creatures.
