Your Local Connection

A unique feature of the WHL network is that each destination booking site is owned and operated by locals. You deal directly with local people in the destination you are travelling to and unlike other global booking sites, the people you book with will be there when you get there.

They not only know the destination intimately, but they have been selected to become part of the growing WHL family because they care ......care about their local community, about their culture and about the local environment.

Tours and activities of the non-fast food variety

Much as with accommodation, we are trying to ensure that our tours and activities give you a chance to experience the 'real' destination. As our partner in Swaziland puts it.... "we believe in racking up experiences and not just travelling between them".

Some samples include:

Half Day Cultural and Township Tour

Having grown up in a township himself, there is nobody better qualified to lead a Cape Towntownship tour than Morris. He can not only let you in on some of the local history, but he can also give you an insight into all of the various cultural and social dynamics in play.

You can't understand people until you know where they come from. With this in mind, Morris kicks his tour off at the District Six Museum. From there he takes you deep into the heart of some of the various townships in Cape Town where you will see how hundreds of thousands of Capetonians really live. Make sure you take some small change along; it is customary to tip families who let you into their homes.

Elephants and Trekking

Elephant & Trekking

Full day elephant riding and trekking combination tour in the "Elephant Park Project", which is just 15 km outside of Luang Prabang. The tour includes village visits and soft hiking into amazing countryside, to a Khamu minority village and also the magnificent Tad Sae Waterfall. This is a perfect package for responsible travellers, as this tour also supports the "Fair Trek" project which raises funding for seven villages in the area.
